Quest Quote

“Sometimes it takes a journey to come home.”

- Stephen Levine

Quix Pix

Every month we will share some of our currently favorite books, music, movies and TV shows.

Movies

The Heart of the Game – If you’re tired of hearing about steroids and other professional sports antics, this documentary of Darnellia Russell’s drive to bring her high school girls’ team to a state championship and for her to make the WNBA will give you a welcome respite. Seeing her journey play out over seven years was like riding a very emotional roller coaster and left us with incredible admiration for her and her coach Bill Resler.

Pocket Poem

Small enough to fit in your pocket, big enough to be of use.

Song of the Open Road
by Walt Whitman

Listen here!

Afoot and light-hearted I take to the open road,
Healthy, free, the world before me,
The long brown path before me leading wherever I choose.
Henceforth I ask not good-fortune, I myself am good-fortune,
Henceforth I whimper no more, postpone no more, need nothing,
Done with indoor complaints, libraries, querulous criticisms,
Strong and content I travel the open road.
The earth, that is sufficient,
I do not want the constellations any nearer,
I know they are very well where they are,
I know they suffice for those who belong to them.
(Still here I carry my old delicious burdens,
I carry them, men and women, I carry them with me wherever I go,
I swear it is impossible for me to get rid of them,
I am fill'd with them; and I will fill them in return.)

Topic of the Month
The Journey To and From Home

Life can pull us away from the ‘home’ inside ourselves. The daily grind tends to keep us on one static level – roughly chest-high and above. The increasing speed of deadlines and demands, news, technology, advertising, traffic all seem to conspire to keep us hurtling faster through a cluttered life.

Journeys and vacations give us a way to cut through the increased complexity and speed, to slow down, enjoy simpler pleasures and reconnect with our internal home and source of energy and delight, what Yeats calls, “my deep heart’s core.”

The next time you travel, either for vacation or work, you may wish to take the opportunity to travel lightly. Time away from a complex and often messy life is a wonderful opportunity to... Click here for the complete Topic of the Month.

Featured Program
Roller Coaster

Innovation rules as you utilize all materials you can access to design and build the world’s most exciting roller coaster. This interactive business simulation encourages participants to work together within their small teams, as well as within the larger ‘theme park.’ Each small design team of 5 to 10 people works in their ‘theme park’ area that is located near the working areas of the other teams.

The teams use a mix of provided supplies (PVC, balloons, bamboo stakes, rubber bands, etc.) and anything else they can get their hands on (legally!) to construct a device that will give their marble ‘customers’ the thrill of their little round lives. Each team has very specific design requirements to work from.

Whether it’s a corkscrew design, Figure 8, spinning, or twister roller coaster section, there is a specific minimum and maximum amount of time the... For a complete program description, please click here.

Office Yoga Break

Seated Back Bend

This pose opens the chest and heart. We tend to collapse this area, partly from slumping from tiredness and back strain, and partly to protect our hearts from our challenging lives.

Lean back. Make contact with back rest of chair with upper back. Lengthen front and back body at same time.

Try all variations. Each provides a different benefit. Decide which gives you the most benefit.

A – Arms out to the sides
B – Arms up, fingers up
C – Arms up, fingers interlaced pointing up
