About the Firo-B

For more than 40 years the Fundamental Interpersonal Relations Orientation-Behavior™ (FIRO-B®) assessment has helped people around the world understand how their need for inclusion, control and affection can shape their interactions with others at work. Easy to complete, this 15-minute tool is ideal for team development, one-on-one coaching, communication and leadership development. The FIRO-B is versatile – it can be used as a stand-alone or in conjunction with the MBTI to create a comprehensive view of personal style for use in improving working relationships and individual effectiveness.

The FIRO-B provides information about three fundamental dimensions of interpersonal needs:

Inclusion – recognition, participation, and how you relate to groups
Control – influence, leadership and decision making
Affection – closeness, openness, and how you relate to others

The FIRO-B instrument increases your understanding of how you tend to behave toward others and how you want them to behave towards you.

The FIRO-B helps you to get a measurement of such vital information as:

If your team has taken the MBTI

The FIRO-B is an excellent complement to the MBTI and the two tools are widely used together. Since FIRO-B uses completely different scales from MBTI, and was not designed to measure inborn "types”, the two together give a more complete picture of a team’s strengths and effectiveness.
